Genesis Chapter 19 describes a city that God destroyed due to their sin. This would be the original “Sin City” if you were to label it. Sodom and Gomorrah was only described in the Bible as “wicked”. There is evidence in Chapter 19 of sexual immorality and that “their sin was so grievous (Gen.18:20)” to the Lord that two angels went to the city before the destruction to see just how bad it was. Abraham pleaded with the Lord to save the city where his brother Lot called home. Chapter 18 describes the Lord telling Abraham that he would spare the city if there were even just ten righteous people who lived there. As you read further into this story, Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed by the Lord because of there sin.

There are many people who equate Las Vegas to the Biblical city of Sodom and Gomorrah. After all, there are a lot of similarities between the two as Las Vegas is known around the world as “Sin City.” Up until just recently, Las Vegas had one of the highest crime rates in a metropolitan city. In 2007, the Department of Justice believed Las Vegas was one of 17 cities who had a human-sex trafficking problem.

Even though every city has their issues, crime, and so on, Vegas seems to receive more attention than other cities. If anything, this information should serve as a call for help for those who have a relationship with Christ.  There are many people who are lost here in Las Vegas and who need to experience the love of Christ. If you feel “called” to serve in Las Vegas there are many opportunities to make a difference in this city. If you already live here and want to get involved there are plenty of ministries to volunteer in and show the love of Christ to all of those who are hurting. The one thing Vegas does have that Sodom and Gomorrah did not, is righteous people.
